Origin and history
The chapel Saint-Sébastien du Mont-Saint-Michel is a historic monument located in the municipality of the same name in Normandy. Built during the Middle Ages, it is one of the protected buildings of this emblematic site, classified for its architectural and cultural heritage. Although little documented in the available sources, this chapel embodies the religious and medieval heritage of the region, marked by a strong monastic presence and community life organized around places of worship.
In the Middle Ages, Mont-Saint-Michel was a major spiritual and strategic centre in Normandy. Chapels such as that of Saint Sebastian played a central role in the daily lives of the inhabitants, serving both as places of prayer and gathering. Their construction often reflected the religious needs of a rural or monastic population, while at the same time bearing witness to the architectural techniques of the time.
These buildings, integrated into the urban or rural fabric, were also markers of local identity and collective devotion.
