Origin and history

Sainte-Hélène Chapel is located at the place called Brarun, in the commune of Surzur, in the department of Morbihan in Brittany. This small, rectangular, single-vessel religious building features typical architectural features of the region. Its façade, pierced by a door in the middle of the hanger, is surmounted by a stone bell. Inside, the wooden cradle vault, with its chamfered entrances and ground sandstones, bears witness to a neat craftsmanship. The 16th century marks, such as the bell tower arch or the third-point bay at the bedside, coexist with more recent elements, dating from the 19th century.

The chapel was listed as historic monuments by order of 24 October 1973, thus recognizing its heritage value. Owned by the municipality of Surzur, it embodies a local architectural and religious heritage. Its bell tower, with its arch in braid, and its simple but elegant structure, make it an example of small Breton chapels, often linked to popular devotion and rural traditions.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its importance in the cultural landscape of Morbihan. Although its exact location is estimated with average accuracy (level 6 in 10), its approximate address is identified as 5711 Brarun, 56450 Surzur. The chapel, although protected, does not have precise information in the sources consulted as to its current accessibility or possible tourist functions (visits, rentals, accommodation).
