Origin and history

Beauregard Castle, located in Collonges-la-Rouge, is an emblematic monument of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Built in the 15th century, it embodies late medieval architecture, typical of the castles of this period. Its inscription as a Historic Monument by decree of 17 December 1926 bears witness to its heritage value and the desire to preserve this local heritage.

Collonges-la-Rouge, a medieval village ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, was in the 15th century a place marked by agriculture, crafts and trade. The castles of that time often served as seigneurial residences, defence sites or symbols of power. Beauregard Castle, although little documented in available sources, is part of this historical context where fortifications played a central role in the social and economic organization of rural territories.
