Origin and history

The Château de Bellevue, located in Toulouse, has its origins in a farm mentioned in 1571. The present building, built in the 18th century, has a sober two-storey facade, topped by a balustrade and a central pediment. It is surrounded by two wings back sheltering stairs, and its architecture reflects the classical style of the era.

In 1884, the Toulouse banker Théodore Ozenne left a 33-hectare estate at the Lycée de Toulouse (now the Pierre-de-Fermat High School), including the castle, in order to provide an environment conducive to the development of high school students outside the city centre. This legacy marks the beginning of the educational vocation of the site.

In 1952, Bellevue High School was founded on this field, initially hosting about 40 students. In the 1960s, it became an experimental establishment, then specialized in scientific fields and preparatory classes for large schools (CPGE). The castle, the historic heart of the site, is listed as historical monuments on November 29, 1993 for its facades and roofs, as well as those of its gazebo.

The high school, installed within this heritage framework, has several notable episodes, such as student protest movements (Fillon Act in 2005, pension reform in 2010) or tragic events, such as the disappearance of an English teacher in 2014. Despite these hazards, the castle remains a symbol of the alliance between history and educational modernity.
