Origin and history

Boufflers Castle, also known as Remiencourt Castle, is an 18th-century building located on Rue Adalbert de Francqueville in the municipality of Remiencourt (Somme). Built for the Boufflers family, it passed by inheritance or acquisition to the family of Francqueville, who still owns it today. This castle illustrates the provincial aristocratic architecture of its time, with its symmetrical wings and its court of honor.

In 1973, the castle's facades, roofs and the courtyard of honour, including its entrance gate, were included in the inventory of historic monuments by decree. This protection was extended in 2020 to cover the entire estate: the park with its water room, moats, pigeons, stables and outbuildings court. These extensions reflect the desire to preserve a coherent architectural and landscape set, characteristic of 18th century seigneurial residences.

The Château de Boufflers thus embodies almost three centuries of uninterrupted family history, while at the same time testifying to the evolution of heritage conservation practices in France. Its gradual inscription, first partial and then total, underscores the growing recognition of the historical and aesthetic value of the rural areas of the Ancien Régime.
