Origin and history
The Château de Calvières, located in Saint-Laurent-d'Aigouze in the department of Gard (Occitanie), is a building whose origins date back to the 17th century, with major transformations in the 19th century. It features an L-shaped plan, with a separate house in the 18th century and a symmetrical facade remodeled in the 19th century. The castle includes notable architectural elements such as a corner tower, 17th-century painted ceilings (vegetal decorations, loves, landscapes), and a 17th-century fireplace in the dining room. The park, mainly wooded in the 19th century, completes this collection classified Historic Monument since 2001.
The castle is now a private property, but it is open to the public during European Heritage Days. Since July 2020, it also serves as a filming venue for the series Here it all begins, broadcast on TF1. The protected elements include the park, two rooms with painted ceilings, as well as the facades and roofs of the house body, excluding communes. The official address lists two locations: 1 rue Blanqui and 164 place de la République.
Architecturally, the castle is distinguished by its duality between the eastern part, dedicated to services, and the western part, older, with its corner tower and 19th century bays. The communes occupy the southern part of the courtyard, accessible by a large portal. Inside, the chimneys of the floors and painted ceilings testify to stylistic changes between the 17th and 19th centuries. The accuracy of its location is estimated at 5/10, with approximate GPS coordinates pointing to 92 Avenue Jean Jaurès.
