Origin and history

Campet Castle is an aristocratic residence built in the Landes department, on the town of Campet-et-Lamolère. Reconstructed from 1640, it replaced a medieval fortress ravaged by fire during the Wars of Religion (1562-1598). This monument illustrates the architectural transition between the defensive castles and the pleasure residences of the Great Century, while preserving traces of its military past.

Ranked as a historical monument since December 22, 1987, the castle protects its facades, roofs, a chapel, as well as its park with its water rooms. These elements reflect the symbolic and landscaped importance of the site, typical of the modern-day Irish nobility domains. Property, now owned by a private company, remains a testament to local history and the evolution of regional elites after religious conflicts.

In 2025, the Château de Campet acquired a media reputation by serving as a setting for the TV film Murtres in Mont-de-Marsan. In fiction, he embodies the home of Florence and Arthur Laborde, a family of forest owners facing financial difficulties. This filming choice highlights the architectural heritage of the Land and its cinematographic potential, while anchoring the monument in contemporary culture.

The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum, Mérimée base) confirm its precise address: 1100 Allée du Marquis du Lyon, in Campet-et-Lamolère. The Insee code of the municipality (40062) and its connection to the district of Mont-de-Marsan complete the administrative data of the site. The castle, although private, arouses a growing interest in heritage and tourism in New Aquitaine.
