Origin and history

The Château de Catteville, also known as the Manor House of Catteville, is a historic residence in the commune of Ocqueville, in the Seine-Maritime department of Normandy. Mainly dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, it illustrates the architectural evolution between Renaissance and classicism. The building, built of bricks and limestone, retains original elements of the 16th century, while later changes, especially in the 18th century, shaped its present appearance.

The castle was erected at the beginning of the 16th century by the Morel family, a local lineage whose influence in the area remains poorly documented. In 1682 the property was acquired by Charles Boulay, adviser to the Parliament of Normandy, marking a period of transition in his history. In the middle of the 18th century, Jean-Marie Boutren d'Hatteville undertook major expansion and reshaping work, deeply transforming the structure. The castle then changed hands several times, passing through alliance to the families of Becdelièvre, Montmorency-Luxembourg and Durfort.

In the 19th century, a cooler was added in front of the castle, reflecting the functional adaptations of the period. In 1975, the facades, roofs and entrance gates were listed as historic monuments, recognizing the heritage value of the site. Today, the Castle of Catteville embodies both Norman seigneurial heritage and architectural transformations related to changes in owners over the centuries.
