Castle of Certex en Haute-Savoie

Origin and history

The Château de Cerex is a building located in the commune of Certex, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Although its existence is attested, the available sources do not specify its construction period or detailed history. This monument therefore remains partially mysterious for local historians.

In this region, castles have often played a central role in the social and economic organization of the territories. They served as places of power, protection or residence for local lords. In Certex, as elsewhere in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, these buildings were generally linked to agriculture, trade or the defence of the surrounding populations.
