Origin and history

Cerqueux Castle, listed as a Historic Monument, is distinguished by its 17th and 18th century architecture. The main façade, bordered by old moats, features a large central building flanked by two forward pavilions, extended by perpendicular wings. The penetrating roofs, the wrought iron balconies of Louis XV style, and the big doucin style date from this period. An eighteenth-century pediment adorns the facades, while an eight-step pediment marks the entrance, probably added to the next century.

On the park side, the facade extends with the same wrought iron balconies, framed by two prominent square towers and low outbuildings. The wing is, once orangery, completes the whole. Inside, the 18th century pieces are richly decorated with woodwork, mostly in Louis XV style, reflecting the refinement of the era. The staircase and its wrought iron ramp, protected since 1975, bear witness to the craftsmanship of this period.

The protected elements include facades, roofs, as well as the staircase with its ramp, listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by order of 30 September 1975. The castle, located in the Loir-et-Cher, embodies the architectural evolution between classicism and rococo, typical of the aristocratic residences of the Centre-Val de Loire region.
