Origin and history

Chavagnac Castle is a building located in the municipality of Lemps, in the department of Ardèche, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Located in the Vivarais, northeast of the Ardèche, it dominates a landscape marked by reliefs and rural history. Its initial construction dates back to the late 18th century, around 1790, under the impulse of Mr. Botu de Verchère, before being completed and transformed by the Meyniac family.

The castle was bought at auction by Pierre Meyniac, who continued the work begun by Botu de Verchère. His son, François Meyniac, finished the building, which then passed to Madame Vibert, born Meyniac. The house underwent major alterations at the end of the 19th century, giving it its present appearance. The recently built gardens combine a French style with an English-style park, complemented by an ornamental pool.

Since August 2019, current owners Silvere and Franck Goudard Peyrolon have been carrying out major renovations to preserve this heritage. These interventions aim to restore the building while valuing its exteriors, demonstrating a commitment to safeguarding a place full of local history. The castle thus illustrates the architectural and landscape evolution of aristocratic residences in Vivarais.
