Origin and history

The Château de Colombe-lès-Vesoul is an 18th-century building built in 1732 by Anatoile Lyautey de Colombe, local lord and receiver of the Bailiwick's finances. Located on a limestone plateau, it overlooks the valley crossed by Colombine. The castle retains an original interior decor, including woodwork, fireplaces and a private chapel on the first floor. Its outbuildings, such as stables and a seigneurial dovecote, complete the architectural ensemble.

The family Lyautey de Colombe, owner since its construction, transmitted the castle by inheritance, notably via the Reboul family by alliance. Anatoile Lyautey de Colombe, first owner, held important administrative functions, such as Viscount Mayor of Vesoul. The castle, with a quadrangular plan, features a hipped roof and a wrought iron balcony on the park side. Its remarkably preserved interiors include panelling, painted hazes and period chimneys.

Ranked a Historic Monument in 2014, the castle includes the house body, the communes, the dovecote and its park. Its architecture and decor reflect the 18th century provincial aristocratic style, with elements such as a seigneurial dovecote and a tower in the park. The exact location, 34 Grande-Rue in Colombe-lès-Vesoul, is referenced in the Merimée database under the code Insee 70162, in Haute-Saône.
