Origin and history
The Château de Cornusson is a medieval building originally built as a castle, then completely rebuilt at the end of the 16th century and at the beginning of the 17th century by the family of La Valette-Parisot. Located on a rocky spur overlooking the Seye Valley, it retains architectural elements typical of the Renaissance, such as monumental chimneys, painted ceilings and wall paintings still visible today. This monument illustrates the evolution of defensive styles towards more comfortable aristocratic residences, while keeping traces of its military origin.
The castle was commanded by François de La Valette-Cornusson, then bishop of Vabres, and reflects the influence of this noble family on the region. Redesigned in the 18th and 19th centuries, especially in its southern wing, it was listed as a historical monument on 20 August 2012 for its remarkable elements, including entrance pavilions, terraces and moat. Today, it belongs to a private company and retains an exceptional decorative heritage, witness to its multi-series history.
Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight the architectural value of the castle, as well as its role in local history. Its recent listing among historical monuments reinforces its protection and recognition as a key element of the Tarn-et-Garonne heritage in Occitanie. The accuracy of its location, noted as satisfactory, and the photographs available under Creative Commons license make it possible to appreciate its external and interior details.
