Origin and history
The Château de Couvray is a historic monument located in the municipality of the same name, in Seine-et-Marne (77), in the Île-de-France region. Built mainly in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it embodies the aristocratic residential architecture of this period, marked by stylistic transformations and landscape developments. The site is now recognized for its protected elements, including the commons and the dovecote, listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 17 May 1988.
The buildings of the castle, although partially preserved, reflect the uses of a seigneurial and then bourgeois residence, typical of Ile-de-France. In modern times, castles in this region often served as secondary residences for Parisian elites, while playing a local economic role through the farming of adjoining lands. The dovecote, emblematic of rural estates, also symbolized the seigneurial right and property wealth of its owners.
The location of the castle, at 9001 Parc de Couvray, is documented in the Merimée base, although geographical accuracy is considered poor (note of 5/10). This impreciseness can be explained by urban changes or changes in plots over the centuries. Today, the site seems accessible for visits or events, although the precise practical information is not detailed in the available sources.
