Origin and history
Dommerville Castle is a 4th quarter-century building built between 1777 and 1782 in Angerville, Essonne. Commanded by Marquis Charles Philippe Louis de Hallot, lieutenant general of the King's armies, he embodied the aristocratic architecture of the end of the Ancien Régime. Its style reflects the classical influences of the time, with facades and roofs protected since 1977.
Over the centuries, the castle has known several notable owners, including General Donatien-Marie-Joseph de Rochambeau, a Napoleonic figure, and noble families such as the Ferrières de Sauvebeuf. In the 19th century, it was converted into a farm by a farmer, before being restored between 1995 and 1999. The work allowed to reconstruct the missing second floor and preserve original elements such as the wrought iron staircase.
Today, the castle is managed by the SCI of Dommerville and rented for private events, including weddings. Its listing of historical monuments in 1977 covers the facades, roofs, the entrance gate, and a hexagonal pavilion of the park. The site remains a testimony of local history and the evolution of the uses of castles in Île-de-France.
