Origin and history

Ferrières Castle was built in the 18th century at the initiative of Nicolas de Herté (1709–1788). The building adopts a rectangular plan, flanked by two aligned wings, with a floor between ground floor and attic, covered with a slate roof. The outbuildings, located east and west, form a closed courtyard. This building illustrates the aristocratic residential architecture of the time, combining functionality and elegance.

In the 19th century, the castle was embellished by notable interior elements, including 13 mists painted by Raoul de Pibrac (1852–1937). These works, still in place, adorn the salons and rooms, testifying to the artistic refinement of the period. Pibrac also made similar sets for the Academy of Floral Games in Toulouse in 1906. These mists today constitute a rare and preserved artistic heritage.

The estate includes, in addition to the house body, commons ( stables, farm, dovecote, orangery), a park, aisles and a boom. The whole, protected by a decree of 17 February 2003, reflects the evolution of the tastes and uses of rural elites between the 18th and 19th centuries. The castle thus embodies both a seigneurial residence and a place of life marked by local history.

Located in Ferrières in the department of the Somme (Hauts-de-France), the castle is identified in the Mérimée base under address 2 place Jean de Tourtier. Its inscription as a Historic Monument highlights its heritage value, both architectural and historical, in the regional landscape.
