Augustin-Claude de La Vacquerie - Lord and War Commissioner Commander of the castle in the 18th century.

Origin and history

Flambermont Castle, located in the commune of Saint-Martin-le-Noud (département de l'Oise, Hauts-de-France region), is a building built in the mid-18th century. It was erected by Augustin-Claude de La Vacquerie, seigneur of Senefontaine and Flambermont, then war commissioner. This castle, of classic style, is distinguished by its four-level house body, composed of nine spans, with a wider central span. Its four-paned roof, covered with slates, and its brick and stone façade reflect the aristocratic residential architecture of the time.

The ground floor of the castle housed rooms dedicated to the "service of the mouth", including kitchens and reserves. The first floor, accessible by an outdoor staircase with a porch, was reserved for reception rooms, such as a living room, dining room or library. The top floor, on the other hand, was dedicated to the private family sphere, with rooms accompanied by cabinets or wardrobes. These developments illustrate the social and domestic organization of the 18th century seigneurial houses.

A palmarium greenhouse was added after 1890 to grow palm trees and other exotic plants. This structure, remarkable by its metal frames and its hammered glass, includes a central body of 10 meters high, topped by a dome with curved glasses, as well as two symmetrical wings, for a total surface of 200 m2. Restored from 2012, this greenhouse is included in the Additional Inventory of Historic Monuments, like the castle, protected by decree of 26 January 2007.
