Origin and history
The Château de Fourquevaux is located in the commune of the same name, in Haute-Garonne, Occitanie region. Its history dates back to the 13th century, when a square tower was erected at the confluence of two streams. This first defensive element marks the medieval origins of the site, although the main body of the castle was built later in the 15th century.
The present structure of the castle revolves around this 15th century construction, reflecting the characteristic architecture of the late Middle Ages. A notable addition occurred in 1750 with the construction of an orangery, reflecting an evolution towards more aesthetic and residential concerns. This mixture of medieval and classical elements illustrates the transformations of the monument over the centuries.
In 1979, the facades and roofs of Fourquevaux Castle were classified as historical monuments. This official protection underscores the heritage value of the site, preserving its architecture and history for future generations. The castle is now included in the list of remarkable castles of the Haute-Garonne, contributing to the cultural heritage of the region.
