Origin and history
Gézier Castle is a building built between the 4th quarter of the 17th century and the 1st quarter of the 18th century. Located in the commune of Gézier-et-Fontenelay, in Haute-Saône, it represents an example of civil architecture of this period between classicism and Regency style. The castle preserves original painted decorations, discovered in a room of the house body, which testify to its initial state.
The castle was partially listed as historical monuments in two stages: a first inscription in 1983 protected elements such as the entrance gate, facades, roofs, and the wrought iron staircase. A second registration in 1997 specifically concerned the housing body. These protections highlight the heritage value of the building, including its architectural and decorative features.
The site includes several remarkable elements, including an orangery, a pigeon house, a terrace and a canal, reflecting the typical organization of the seigneurial estates of the time. Although sources do not explicitly mention its current use, its conservation and protections suggest continued interest in this local heritage. The precise location of the castle, rue du Château in Gézier-et-Fontenelay, is attested by the Merimée and Monumentum bases.
