Origin and history
The Château de l'Angle, located in Pouzac in the Hautes-Pyrénées, is an emblematic monument of the first half of the 19th century. Built before 1834, it is distinguished by its regular quadrilateral and a main facade with geometric proportions, typical of pure neoclassical style. The curved bays, the oculus pediment and the analogies with the thermal architecture of the years 1820-1830 underline its architectural elegance. The lateral facades, decorated with niches and hunting allegorical moulds, add to its historical character.
The back part of the castle was modified by the addition of a glass veranda at the top of the porch, slightly altering its initial proportions. Inside, the decor, characteristic of the Restoration style, is spread over the mantles of chimneys, doors, cornices and woodwork of the library. This decor, unique in the region, reflects the refinement of the period and the importance attached to interior aesthetics.
The castle is partially protected: its facades, roofs, the iron gate and the double gate have been registered since 1990, while the vestibule, the large living room and two adjoining cabinets have been classified since 1994. These protections highlight the heritage value of the building, both for its exterior architecture and for its interior riches.
