Origin and history

The Château de la Borie is a small 15th century mansion located in Saint Vincent de Salers, Cantal. Its architecture is characterized by a rectangular house flanked by a round tower and a square tower, typical of the defensive buildings of this time. The Gothic entrance, decorated with a carved shield, and the ground bays bear witness to its medieval style.

The 17th century interiors illustrate the Cantalian art of the period. The religious frescoes, carved woodwork and the French-painted ceiling in the large hall reflect the influence of regional baroque decorations. These elements, classified as historical monuments in 1986, offer a rare testimony of local aristocratic life.

The castle was partially listed as historical monuments by order of 1 July 1986. The protected elements include the facades, the garden's armored gate, as well as emblematic pieces such as the Pelican's bedroom and the Madeleine's bedroom, decorated with biblical paintings and floral motifs.
