Origin and history
The Château de la Corrée is a 17th-century building located in Lourmarin, Vaucluse. Built outside the village, it belongs first to the Savonin family in the 17th century and then passes into the hands of Girard in the 19th century. The latter, including Pierre-Henri-Joseph Girard, are undertaking major work on the reclamation of marshland, allowing the development of a park decorated with fountains, waterfalls and basins.
The architecture of the castle combines 17th-century elements, such as vaults and French ceilings, with neo-baroque additions of the 19th century, including painted decorations and gypseries in the room of the building. The park, structured in groves and equipped with a complex hydraulic system, is inseparable from the estate's historic agricultural operation. Together, including the castle, its outbuildings and its hydraulic system, has been listed as historical monuments since 2003.
Today, the Château de la Corrée remains a private property, showing both the architectural heritage of the 17th and 19th centuries and the ingenuity of landscape developments. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments underscores its heritage importance in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
