Origin and history

The Château de la Côte is a Renaissance-style building located in the northwest of the town of Biras, Dordogne (New Aquitaine). It consists of two housing bodies in square, quartered by three round towers, with a fourth tower marking the main entrance. The estate extends over 160 hectares, including communes, cellars and a stable, in a forested setting of centuries-old trees.

Built in the 15th and 16th centuries, the castle is mentioned for its castral chapel from 1498. He is associated with historical figures such as Jean Marie du Lau d'Allemans, archbishop of Arles born there in 1738. The Napoleonic cadastre represents it as a closed quadrilateral flanked by round towers. After belonging to the Lau d'Allemans family, he moved to the Dethan, which restored him between 1868 and 1870 under the direction of architect Auguste Dubet.

Acquired in 1956 by the Guillaume family, the castle was transformed into a hotel-restaurant in the late 1980s. It is now included in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage (Mérimée base) and remains a remarkable example of Renaissance architecture in Périgord, combining historical heritage and contemporary usage.
