Origin and history
The castle of the Court in Jazeneuil, classified as a Historical Monument, is distinguished by its majestic entrance marked by an 18th century grid, whose heights support stone vases. In front of this entrance, a central building features a round promenade tower, typical of the defensive or residential buildings of the time. The adjacent easements are home to remarkable sculptural elements, including six crows and an 18th-century lintel, integrated into the façade.
The ravens, embedded in the left and right servitudes, represent a variety of motifs: a ram's head, a rabbit eating a leaf, an ox's head, a lion's head, a human head wearing glasses, a bearded head and a demon's head. The lintel illustrates two sirens surrounded by a crown of foliage. These elements, protected by a decree of 5 November 1937, bear witness to the artistic and symbolic know-how of the time.
The castle, now owned by an association, retains a precise location at 6270 La Cour, 86600 Jazeneuil, in the department of Vienna in New Aquitaine. Although its access and current uses (visits, rentals, accommodation) are not detailed in the sources, its sculpted and architectural heritage makes it a notable historical site of the Poitou-Charentes. The accuracy of its location is assessed as very satisfactory (note 8/10), confirming its territorial anchoring.
