Origin and history

Château de la Faurie is a small mansion located in Bassillac and Auberoche, Dordogne (Nouveau-Aquitaine), having retained its historical character. It dates mainly from the 15th and 16th centuries. The site includes a gated courtyard with commons, as well as a 15th century circular defensive tower, with a round crow path. A round tower with a spiral staircase, typical of the sixteenth century, completes the architectural ensemble.

The castle was listed as a Historical Monument by order of 12 October 1948. Although its administrative address is sometimes associated with the commune of Change (code Insee 24026), its precise location is indicated as 70 Rue de la Faurie in Bassillac and Auberoche. Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) mention its protected status, but do not specify whether it is open to visit or used for specific activities such as guest rooms.

Unlike other castles in the region, such as that of the Sandre (13th century) located in the Change, the Faurie castle does not retain elements prior to the 15th century. Its architecture reflects the defensive and residential evolutions of the Perigord manors between the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. No information is available about its historic owners or any significant events that would take place there.
