Origin and history

The Château de la Fenardière is a building located in the commune of Saint-Berthevin, in the department of Mayenne, in the Pays de la Loire region. Although its exact period of construction is not specified, the archives mention its existence from the 16th century under the names of La Fouynardière (1511) or La Fesnardière (1604). It also appears on the Cassini Map as a farm, suggesting an evolution of its use over the centuries.

This monument was originally a moving fief of Thuboeuf, indicating its attachment to a local seigneury and its role in the feudal organization of the region. Historical sources, such as the Dictionnaire de la Mayenne (Angot & Gaugain, 1900-1910), cite it among the department's castles, but few details are available on its architecture or occupants.

The mention of the Fouynardière in 1511 and the Fesnardière in 1604 reflects the spelling variations common in modern times. The Cassini Map, established in the 18th century, classed it as a farm, which could indicate a transformation of its initial use, perhaps linked to socio-economic changes in the region. However, no information is available on the lords who owned this fief or on significant events taking place there.
