Origin and history

The Château de la Forge, also known as the Bourbons House, is an emblematic monument of the town of Haironville, in the department of Meuse. Built during the 2nd quarter of the 18th century, it embodies the civil architecture of this period, marked by a transition between the classical style and the beginnings of neoclassicism. Its elevation and roof, characteristic of this period, were recognized by an inscription in the title of historical monuments by decree of 9 June 1947, highlighting its heritage interest.

The castle is intimately linked to local industrial history, as evidenced by its name evoking the forges of Haironville, whose activity has been attested since the 16th century. Although the sources do not specify its original sponsor, its alternative name ("Maison des Bourbons") suggests a real or supposed link with this noble lineage. Today, the building retains a central place in the Meusian heritage, as evidenced by its mention in specialized works such as the Dictionnaire des châteaux de France (1978) or Histoire des forges d'Haironville (1989).

On the administrative level, the castle is referenced in the Mérimée base under the code Insee 55224, corresponding to the municipality of Haironville, attached to the district of Bar-le-Duc. The protected elements are limited to the facades and roofs of the main building, reflecting a desire to preserve its outer envelope. Additional resources, such as a video available on Territorial TV, allow to deepen its history, although the details of its current use (visits, accommodation) remain partial in the sources consulted.
