Origin and history

The Château de la Goinière is 2 km southwest of Andoullé, in the Pays de la Loire. The modern-style building was built on the site of an older manor house dating back at least to the 16th century. It is distinguished by four round towers, giving the home an elegant and symmetrical look. This estate was once a fief dependent on Saint-Ouën-des-Toits, including land, wood and vineyards, as evidenced by the archives of 1751.

The castle belonged to several influential families in the region, including the Guérifs (mentioned in 1532), the Le Clerc (from 1582) and the Coustards. These families, often linked to the local nobility or the Earth bourgeoisie, have marked the history of the estate by their management of the lands and resources attached to the fief. The former mansion, before its reconstruction, was a symbol of seigneurial power in this part of Mayenne, where agriculture and logging played a major economic role.

Among the personalities associated with the place, Guillaume Le Clerc de Crannes stands out, although his exact role is not detailed in the available sources. The estate illustrates the evolution of aristocratic residences, moving from medieval fortresses to more comfortable and representative homes of social status, while preserving defensive elements such as the towering of the corner. Today, the Château de la Goinière remains a testament to this regional architectural and historical heritage.
