Origin and history
Château de la Pachevie, mentioned in 1379, is a medieval mansion located in Rouffiac, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its initial structure, typical of the Cantal, has been enriched over the centuries by significant additions, such as a chapel built in the seventeenth century. These transformations reflect the architectural evolution and the needs of the occupants throughout the eras.
A fire in the 18th century partially destroyed the dungeon, resulting in major reconstructions that changed the appearance of the house. Under the Restoration, a room was transformed into a living room, illustrating the adaptations of the castle to lifestyles and aesthetic tastes of the time. These changes allowed the building to be preserved while adapting to contemporary uses.
The Château de la Pachevie was partially listed as historical monuments by order of 15 January 1990. This protection recognizes its heritage value, particularly for its architecture combining local materials and classic elements, as well as its interior decorations, such as a living room decorated with wallpaper. This status contributes to its preservation and enhancement in the regional cultural landscape.
Typical of Cantalian mansions, the castle combines medieval features with more recent influences. Its house structure, rebuilt after the 18th century fire, and its 17th century chapel make it a representative example of the local architectural heritage. The presence of this monument is part of a regional history marked by defensive and seigneurial constructions, adapted to the geographical and social specificities of the Haute-Auvergne.
