Origin and history

The Possonnière Manor House, also known as Ronsard Castle, is an Italian Renaissance building built in the early 16th century. Located in Vallée-de-Ronsard in Loir-et-Cher, it has been listed as a historic monument since 1862. This place is best known as the home of the poet Pierre de Ronsard, born in 1524, who lived there for his first 12 years.

In 1515 Loys de Ronsard, knight in the service of Kings Louis XII and François I, built this dominant Couture-sur-Loir mansion. The building includes a body of rectangular houses, outbuildings dug in the tuffeau, and troglodytic kitchens decorated with Italian Renaissance sculptures. Pierre de Ronsard, sixth child of Loys and Jeanne Chaudrier, was born there on September 11, 1524.

In the 19th century, the mansion underwent extensive restorations by the Delahaye, Sainte-Claire Deville and Hallopeau families. At the beginning of the 21st century, it was acquired by the community of communes, then became the community of agglomeration Territories Vendômois. In 2004, the rose garden André Eve created the "Gardens de la Possonnière", a rose garden of more than 200 varieties of old and modern roses.

In 2019, Ronsard's home was awarded the label "Maison des Illustres" by the Ministry of Culture, highlighting its role in the memory of key figures in French cultural history. Today, the manor house is located near the V47 "Loir Valley by bike" bike and offers a garden inspired by those of the Renaissance.

Future

In 2004 the rose garden André Eve created the "Gardens de la Possonnière" with a rose garden of more than 200 varieties of old and modern roses.
