Origin and history

The Château de la Rivoire is a historic monument located in the commune of Vanosc, in Ardèche. Originally built in the 13th century, it was acquired at the beginning of the 18th century by the Pichon family, which began its reconstruction shortly after the purchase. This castle, whose architecture is inspired by the Aix bastides and the madness of Île-de-France, reflects the stylistic influences of its time.

At the beginning of the 18th century, the castle was sold by the family of the Rivoire de la Tourette to the family Pichon, who later adopted the name Pichon de la Rivoire. The latter played a key role in the transformation of the building, giving it its present appearance. The castle was listed as historic monuments in 2001, recognizing its heritage value.

The location of the castle, in the department of Ardèche in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, makes it an architectural and historical testimony of this geographical area. Its inclusion in the list of historical monuments of the Ardèche underlines its importance in the local heritage.
