Origin and history
The Château de La Teyssonnière is a historic monument located in the commune of Buellas, in the department of Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in bricks, it stands out for its location in the Botanical Park of La Teyssonnière, where it replaces an old wooden house. The surrounding ditches recall its defensive origin and its architectural evolution throughout the centuries.
The castle found its origins around 1346, when Étienne de La Teyssonnière ordered its construction. The building has undergone several reconstructions over the centuries, reflecting the architectural styles of each era. Despite the partial destruction during the French Revolution, it survived and remains a testimony of the local history and family of La Teyssonnière, intimately linked to this place.
Today, the castle of La Teyssonnière is situated in a preserved natural setting, that of the botanical park which bears its name. This site combines historical heritage and biodiversity, offering a space where medieval history and horticulture meet. Its architecture, marked by successive transformations, makes it a representative example of castles in the region of Ain and Bresse.
