Origin and history
Château de la Touanne is a French building located in Baccon, in the Loiret department and the Centre-Val de Loire region. Built mainly in the seventeenth century, it features a H-shaped plan, with wings in return on the front and rear facades. The south-west facade, facing the courtyard of honour, was modified under the Restoration (early 19th century), with a entablishment enhanced and a central porch marked by four pilasters supporting a triangular pediment. The left wing, added in the 18th century, completes this architectural ensemble.
The estate is situated in a typical Beauce landscape, 110 metres above sea level, near the hamlet of Fontaine and the Mauve River. It is bordered by the wood of the Touanne and crossed by the departmental road 2. The dry moat, the two 17th century entrance pavilions and the access gate have been among the protected elements since the castle was listed in the inventory of the Historic Monuments on 23 September 1970. Today, the site houses guest rooms, perpetuating a welcome vocation.
Historically, the Tuanne depended on the seigneury of Montpipau, in the former province of Orléan. The original park façade retains brick and stone details, while the courtyard of honour, preceded by ditches, reflects successive developments. Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) highlight its local heritage importance, notably in the list of Loiret castles and historical monuments of the region.
