Origin and history
Laroque Castle in Lanquais is a 15th century mansion, representative of the perigord architecture. It is distinguished by its two housing bodies in return for square, one of which is flanked by a hexagonal tower. Although mostly built in the 15th and 16th centuries, its arch vaulted foundations and cellars, visible on the north facade, probably date back to the 13th century, revealing an earlier occupation of the site.
Ranked Historic Monument by order of 12 October 1948, the castle retains a picturesque look, characteristic of the seigneurial houses of the region. Its inscription bears witness to its heritage importance, although the available sources do not specify its exact use over the centuries. The address recorded in the Mérimée base (549 Route de Laroque) and its Insee code (24228) clearly place it in the Dordogne, in the old Aquitaine.
The protected elements include the entire castle (cadastre D 10), but the practical information, such as the opening to the public or the services offered (visits, rentals, guest rooms), are not detailed in the sources consulted. The GPS location is considered "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), and a photograph under the Creative Commons license, credited to Michel Chanaud, illustrates the monument.
