Origin and history
The Château de Léberon, located in Cassaigne in the Gers, has mainly Renaissance architecture, although its foundations date back to the thirteenth century. The round tower, probably built in the 14th century, and the house body, the oldest part, illustrate the successive transformations of the building. The facades and roofs, protected since 1963, reflect the styles of the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, marking its evolution throughout the eras.
Ranked a Historic Monument, the castle of Léberon embodies the seigneurial heritage of the region. Its inscription in 1963 covers all facades and roofs, highlighting its heritage value. Although sources are lacking on its owners or significant events, its hybrid—medieval and Renaissance architecture—testifies to the social and artistic changes in Occitanie between the Middle Ages and the modern era.
The location of the castle, noted as "passable" (level 5/10) in the databases, suggests a rural site, typical of the small Gersoise seigneuries. Its initial role, probably defensive and residential, evolved over the centuries to adapt to the needs of local elites. Today, his state and vocation (visit, rental) remain partially documented, inviting further research.
