Origin and history
Magny-lès-Aubigny Castle is a mid-eighteenth-century monument built at the site of an earlier 11th or 12th-century building. In classic style, it is distinguished by its facades and roofs inscribed in historical monuments since 1976, as well as by its park of five hectares, housing a remarkable linden planted during the Sully era. Its brick commons and interior furniture, such as the wrought iron staircase or decorated living room, bear witness to its architectural prestige.
The estate, including the castle, the communes and the park, was fully listed as historical monuments in 2021. This protection covers parcels spread over the communes of Magny-lès-Aubigny and d-Aubigny-en-Plaine. The site, located at the northern end of the village, combines a classical built heritage with a preserved landscape, marked by elements such as the old fireplace maintaining its original mechanism.
Although the sources mention a medieval origin for the first building, no details are provided on its sponsors or its initial use. The present castle, representative of the 18th century aristocratic architecture, illustrates the evolution of seigneurial residences in Burgundy, moving from medieval fortresses to classical recreational residences. Its park and outbuildings reflect the importance attached to aesthetics and comfort at that time.
The location of the castle, at the border of the communes of Magny-lès-Aubigny and Aubigny-en-Plaine, highlights its territorial anchor. The successive protections (1976 and 2021) attest to its heritage value, both for its architecture and for its furniture and landscape environment. The linden classified among the remarkable trees reinforces this link between history and nature.
