Origin and history
The Château de Marieux, located in the department of the Somme, was built in 1777 by the family Le Caron de Chocqueuse, who became lord of Marieux in 1680. This 18th century castle, built in brick and stone, replaces an old building located nearby. It is distinguished by its majestic entrance gate and richly decorated interior, including a wrought iron staircase, a large living room, a dining room, a library, as well as rooms with colourful decors (green, red, blue).
The castle is still owned by the Chizelle family. It was partially classified and listed as historical monuments on 7 November 1973, especially for its facades, roofs, gate, staircase, and several interior rooms. The park and the vegetable garden are also protected as historical monuments.
The architecture and interior decorations of the castle reflect the refined 18th century style, with typical elements of the period such as woodwork, wrought iron ramps, and richly decorated living rooms. The estate, with its imposing portal and park, bears witness to the historical and social importance of this seigneurial residence in the region.
