Origin and history

The Château de Mas-Laurent, located at the place known as Maslaurent on the commune of Croze (département de la Creuse, région Nouvelle-Aquitaine), is a building that could be described as a mansion. Although its exact period of initial construction is not specified, it is established that it was rebuilt in the 19th century. This site, long used as a holiday settlement by RATP in the 20th century, is today a private property.

The castle chapel, erected in its park, is a remarkable historical element. Dating from the 15th century, it was originally located in the hamlet of Saint-Antoine, on the neighbouring commune of Saint-Frion. In 1886, it was dismantled and then climbed stone by stone in the Mas-Laurent Castle Park. This chapel, which has been listed as historical monuments since 21 October 1932, includes a nave accompanied by a side chapel, formerly surmounted by a bell tower.

The estate extends over several hectares of wooded park, with the peculiarity of bordering both the Creuse River and the old railway between La Courtine and Aubusson. This landscaped environment, combined with the architecture of the mansion and the presence of the chapel, makes it a historical and picturesque site, representative of the local Creuse heritage.
