Origin and history

The Château de Mauvières is a 17th and 18th century building located in the commune of Saint-Forget in the Yvelines department. It was built on the remains of a modest home belonging to the family of Cyrano de Bergerac. This site, which includes a chapel and communes, has been listed as historic monuments since January 24, 1968, and its park is crossed by the Yvette River. The estate experienced major expansions in the early 18th century, while the current mill dates back to the late 19th century.

The castle served as a setting for audiovisual productions, including the television series Châteauvallon (1983-1984) and an episode of Chez Maupassant entitled L'ami Joseph (2008), with Régis Laspales and Evelyne Bouix. These films bear witness to its cinematic appeal and its preserved setting. The site, including the park, was classified in 1980 for its heritage and landscape value.

Owned by a private company, the Château de Mauvières retains protected elements such as its facades, roofs, chapel and commons. Its history is linked to literary figures such as the family of the Cyrano de Bergerac, although their original home was much more modest. Today, the estate remains an architectural example of the transformations carried out between the 17th and 18th centuries in Île-de-France.
