The facades and roofs of the whole (C 18) : inscription by decree of 23 December 1969
Origin and history
Mondion Castle is a historic monument in the commune of Mondion, New Aquitaine. Built in the 15th century, it is a medieval building whose present state is considered bad. This ancient castle illustrates the defensive and residential architecture of the late Middle Ages in the region, although its remains have suffered the outrages of time.
In the 18th century, a new home as well as commons were erected near the medieval castle, reflecting an ongoing occupation of the site. The facades and roofs of the ensemble were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 23 December 1969, highlighting their heritage value despite their deterioration. The location of the castle, in the department of Vienna, makes it an element of the local heritage of Poitou-Charentes, now integrated into New Aquitaine.
Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum database, indicate that the castle is associated with the municipality of Mondion, whose Insee code is 86162. Although its exact address is mentioned as "86230 Mondion", the accuracy of its geographical location is considered satisfactory a priori (note of 6/10). No information is provided on its current accessibility, whether visitation, room rental or accommodation.
