Château de Montferrand dans l'Aude

Origin and history

Montferrand Castle is a building located in the municipality of the same name, in the Occitanie region. Although its existence is attested, the available sources do not specify its construction period or detailed history. This monument is part of the local architectural landscape, but its exact role and historical characteristics remain to be documented.

In the Occitan region, castles have often played a central role in the social and defensive organization of the territories. In Montferrand, as in other municipalities, these buildings could serve as checkpoints, seigneurial residences or refuges for local populations. Their presence generally reflects the strategic or economic importance of the area throughout the centuries.
