Origin and history
The Château de Montigny, located in Perreux, Yonne, is a 17th and 19th century building, listed as a historical monument in 1997. Built by the Montigny family, it adopts a plan of horseshoe, punctuated with four circular towers. Its posterior façade features a terracotta carved pediment, while the anterior façade was modified in the early twentieth century by the addition of a polygonal tower. The family of Estampes, owner since 1836, largely transformed the interiors.
Behind the stables of the castle, a factory operated from 1735 to 1812, testifying to a craft activity related to the estate. Today, the castle offers free or guided tours, with access to a 60-hectare park with Axis deer, antelope and peacocks at large. Open to the public in summer and during Heritage Days, it combines architectural heritage and preserved natural surroundings.
The protected elements include the facades, roofs, the gate with its gate and a walkway from the castle to the entrance. The site, fully fenced, allows walking, cycling or horse riding, and hosts events outdoors upon reservation. Its exact address is 5 Château de Montigny, 89120 Charny Orée de Puisaye, in the department of Yonne in Burgundy-Franche-Comté.
