The facades and roofs (cad. A 199): entry by order of 31 December 1979
Origin and history
The Château de Montmeilleur is a 15th century building located in the commune of Saint-Baudille-et-Pipet in Isère. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, illustrates the architecture of its time, although the precise details of its construction and its first occupants remain little documented in the available sources.
The facades and roofs of the castle were protected by a registration order dated 31 December 1979. This preservation measure reflects the heritage importance of the site, while emphasizing the need to maintain the architectural features characteristic of this period. The location of the castle, although identified with a priori satisfactory accuracy, remains subject to cartographic adjustments.
In the 15th century, the Alpine region and its surroundings, like Isère, were marked by a feudal organization where castles played a central role. These buildings served as both seigneurial residences, defence sites and power symbols. The local population lived mainly in agriculture, livestock and small crafts, while the local lords provided protection and justice in exchange for loyalty and royalties.
The absence of detailed sources on the Château de Montmeilleur does not allow to accurately trace its history or its occupants. However, its registration as Historic Monuments in 1979 guarantees an official recognition of its heritage value, encouraging its preservation for future generations.
