Origin and history
Morigny Castle, located in the commune of Morigny-Champigny (Essonne, Île-de-France), is a monument dating back to the 12th century, with major transformations in the 15th century, the late 18th century and the 19th century. The present building, mainly from the reconstruction of the late eighteenth century, reflects this historical stratification. Its architecture and park, with the exception of the communes, were listed as historic monuments on September 9, 1965, highlighting their heritage value.
Originally bequeathed to the Sorbonne, the castle was finally resold due to the high maintenance costs of the estate. In 2008, most of its park was acquired by the municipality, making it accessible to residents. This change of ownership marks a transition to a more public vocation, as evidenced by the sale of the park for €30,000 in 2009, reported by Le Parisien.
The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum, Mérimée base) confirm its status as a protected historical monument, with a precise location at 14 Rue de la Mairie, 91150 Morigny-Champigny. The protected elements include the castle and its park, excluding communes, as defined by the 1965 Decree. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rentals) in the source texts.
