Origin and history
The castle of Mothes, located in Condom in Occitanie, is a tower built in the middle of a valley on the road of Agen. It is part of a network of fortresses built in the 13th and 14th centuries in this region of Gascony, then partly attached to the Kingdom of Plantagenes. The tower, now embedded in the buildings of a farm, is dominated by a stair tower later transformed into a dovecote.
The current structure includes a mansion dating back to the early 19th century. The protected elements (walls, roof and staircase) were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 7 December 1987. The original roof and floors have disappeared, but the tower retains its original defensive character, typical of medieval gascon buildings.
The site is located with a "very satisfactory" accuracy (note 8/10), at approximately 9000 Mt Mothes, 32100 Condom. Its history reflects the architectural and agricultural transformations of the region, from medieval times to modern times.
