Origin and history

The Château de Paudy, located in the municipality of the same name in the region Centre-Val de Loire, dates from the 12th century. Today, only a tower remains of this medieval fortress. This dungeon, with a square plan with a stair turret on the south façade, once served as an entrance door to the fortified ensemble. It still retains its vaulted door, the traces of the harrows and the drawbridge (disappeared around 1810), as well as two upper rooms equipped with three chimneys. The structure and roof, on the other hand, date back to the 18th century.

Originally, the castle was flanked by four towers, none of which survived entirely. The current tower, classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 18 June 1930, illustrates a well preserved medieval military architecture. Its exact location, at 19 Rue du Donjon in Paudy (code Insee 36152) in the department of Indre, makes it a remarkable vestige of local history. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory a priori (level 7/10).

Although the sources do not mention specific historical events related to this castle, its dungeon bears witness to the defensive techniques of the twelfth century. The preservation of details such as harrow sites or chimneys offers a concrete insight into life in a fortress of that time. Today, the site could offer visits or services such as room rental, but this information is not specified in available sources.
