Castle: inscription by order of 10 December 1925

Origin and history

The castle of Piffonds is a building located in the department of Yonne, in the commune of Piffonds, in the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Although its detailed history is not widely documented in the available sources, its inscription as historical monuments in 1925 reflects its local heritage importance. Today it belongs to the commune and remains an architectural symbol of this rural area.

The castles of this region, often built between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, served as both seigneurial residences and administrative centres for the surrounding lands. In Yonne, these monuments reflect the feudal and post-revolutionary history of Burgundy, marked by an agricultural economy and local power networks. The castle of Piffonds, by its protected status, illustrates this heritage, although its precise uses over the centuries remain little known.
