Origin and history
Posanges Castle is a medieval building located in the village of the same name, in Côte-d'Or. Built between 1440 and 1445, it was built under the impulse of Guillaume du Bois, member of a noble Burgundy family and lord of Posanges. This castle illustrates the defensive and residential architecture of the period, typical of seigneurial possessions in Burgundy in the 15th century.
Guillaume du Bois, also master of the hotel of Philippe le Bon, Duke of Burgundy, embodies the link between this monument and the ducal courtyard. The castle, recently renovated, bears witness to the strategic and social importance of local lords in the management of land and rural populations. Its existence also reflects the political and economic dynamics of Burgundy in the late Middle Ages, marked by the influence of the great feudals.
The Church of St Andrew, dated the same century, completes this heritage, emphasizing the central role of Posanges as a religious and seigneurial home. The town, now rural and sparsely populated, thus preserves the traces of a medieval past where castles and churches structured community life. The surrounding agricultural lands, which have been the majority for centuries, recall the agrarian economy that has long prevailed in the region.
