Origin and history

The castle of Praisnaud, located in the commune of Ambernac in Charente, is mentioned as a home of the Babaud family in the 16th century. Its architecture combines a rectangular house and two diagonal towers, one of which, to the west, dates back to the 16th century, while the tower dates back to the 19th century. The entrance arch, decorated with the date 1777, marks a period of transformation of the domain.

The castle was acquired in 1935 by the actor Christmas-Christmas, whose wife was originally from Ambernac. He undertook restoration work to preserve this heritage, which includes an impressive round flight, symbol of the right of high and low justice held by the lords of the place. All buildings, including the commons and barn, were listed as a historic monument on October 26, 2004.

Inside, the house preserves remarkable elements such as a wooden staircase, decorations carved in some rooms, and a spatial organization typical of seigneurial residences. The flat tile cover and tower conical roofs reflect regional architectural styles. Today, the castle belongs to a private company and remains a testimony of local history and the evolution of aristocratic constructions in Charente.
