Origin and history

Ragheaud Castle, also known as Rageaux Castle, is located in the municipality of Saint-Cernin, in the Cantal department. This monument, inscribed as historical monuments since January 10, 1964, has its origins at least from the fourteenth century. His first certified owner was Pierre de Bellières, a Damoiseau, mentioned in 1327 as the owner of Raghaud's den.

The seigneury of Raghaud then passed into the hands of the Reghaud family, with Jean de Reghaud paying tribute to the seigneur of Tournemire in 1386. The line continues with Guillaume de Raghaud, married in 1430 to Claude de Ribier, then their descendant Jean de Raghaud, husband of Yolande de Veyrières. Their daughter, Marguerite de Reghaud, married Jehan de La Garde de Saignes after 1522, marking the beginning of a new dynasty that owned the castle.

In the 16th century, Gilbert de La Garde, lord of Raghaud, was quoted in a will dated 1545. His daughter, Marguerite de La Garde, married Gilbert de Corn, a member of the Corn de Queyssac family. Their descendant, Pierre de Corn, married Claire de Gironde, and their daughter Catherine de Corn brought Raghaud in dowry to Henri II de Grenier de Pleaux in 1726. The seigneury remained in this family until Christophe de Grenier de Pleaux, seigneur of Raghaud, transmitted the estate by marriage to his daughter Marie, wife of Jean-Jacques de Pouzols.

In 1752, the castle was acquired by the family of Calonne d'Avesne, originally from Picardie. Jean de Calonne d'Avesne, settled in Haute-Auvergne after his marriage to Jeanne Fortet in 1718, became the new owner. His descendant, Philippe de Calonne, married Marie-Julienne Rodde de Chalaniat in 1745. In 1788 Mathieu de Calonne, an officer in the Noailles regiment, was lord of Raghaud. The line continues with Auguste de Calonne, Count of Calonne, and his sister Uranie de Calonne d'Avesne, last known heiress, married in 1888 to Jules Vimal des Prés.
